things are getting a little weird

A couple of days ago, I pushed my environmentally friendly personal cup across a counter to a worker at a coffee shop in Palm Springs, and the punk rock barista awkwardly refused it, saying: “We don’t take those anymore because of the virus.” She offered to pour my coffee into a paper cup that I could pour into my personal cup. We have the option to choose between our health and the environment, it seems.
